ENDEAVOR TO PERSERVER Chief Dan George/Lone Watie

I wore this frock coat in Washington, before the war. We wore them because we belonged to the five civilized tribes. We dressed ourselves up like Abraham Lincoln. We only got to see the Secretary of the Interior, and he said: "Boy! You boys sure look civilized.!" he congratulated us and gave us medals for looking so civilized. We told him about how our land had been stolen and our people were dying. When we finished he shook our hands and said, "endeavor to persevere!" They stood us in a line: John Jumper, Chili McIntosh, Buffalo Hump, Jim Buckmark, and me — I am Lone Watie. They took our pictures. And the newspapers said, "Indians vow to endeavor to persevere."

We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union

Oh, right!

One of the greatest Westerns ever. The characters were to perfection and the story line excellent too. I see so few movies I don't generally have them in my head fro cultural reference, but that was an excellent effort in film-making, aye.

Thanks to ye, Paddy.

I hope I’m still flexible enough to deal with what’s coming. I wish I could be as excited as you. Seaweed sounds interesting. I chose trees of antiquity. For my food forest. I planted a lot. They look good. Not much fruit/nut/berries yet. It didn’t get cold enough last winter. Take care.

I have a forest. Think the lack of cold will affect sap flow? I want to try making some maple syrple. I'll be planting lots of berries too.

Mmmm, berries.

The very best cookies that I have ever made/had were like Ginger Snaps, only with pure fresh maple syrup instead of the sugar. You might want to give it a try? Yummy !!

I've turned into a cookie monster maker. Stocked up on a ton o' grub a few years back & have the full gamut of organic grains, from hard red, soft winter white, amaranth to kamut, quinoa, corn, barley, lentils, peas, etc, etc, etc. Hell, gotta stop or I'll put me to sleep too. Flour Power!

Anyway, got a nice grain grinder too, all the grain in mylar w/oxygen absorbers and I've been making so many cookies I worry about not having any for a midnight munch so I batch up a week's worth every Sunday evenibng while listening to my favorite radio show.

I'm having a ball experimenting & exploring. I'll try your snap recipe, I will.

Thankee!

Have you tried growing your own amaranth? It has become my favorite plant to accent with in my garden beds. It comes in a variety of vibrant shades of red to a toasted biscuit color and I get the seeds from all over, including Baker Creek.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I live in coastal Alaska at the furthest north point of the Gulf of Alaska, so here in the northernmost temperate rain forest it's more a matter of harvesting protein on the hoof, wing, or fins/shells.

My situation is such that mobility has become a significant problem after 50 + years at sea on northern waters, a price is being paid for all of the deck dancing in rough weather; my point being I'm an old wreck and will pay for someone else to grow my carbohydrates for me.

I will say, it's been a grand adventure, 74 years a lifer Alaskan.

But dreams of doing/growing, yes I will. Dream.

Mmmm sounds like you and Red are very close. I mean the way you describe her beautiful red hair and green eyes. I'm just not going to get in between something that may not have even manifested. So you take all of the trophies and give them to her. At least I had honesty going for me and admitted publicly to the clan that I hadn't read (I didn't waste time even looking that it was an audio file) to be the first to comment. Maybe tomorrow!

Thanks, Clif, for this one. It really helps put it all into perspective for me. I have been wondering the best way to explain what we are going through to others who are freaking out about this, that and the other thing. I am 77, trying to keep it together physically for the next few years - out of curiosity - not sure I want to stick around for too much more chaos. But, your explanation makes me pause - maybe it would be worth it. Onward!

isnt it probable that one of the space alien groups is responsible for controlling the very buttheads politicians and wealthy elite wrecking our society and economy?

If indeed they are, as some of us have long suspected, actually demons, that could be at least a part of the answer as to why things frequently go so badly. I suspect that we are always at choice, and can either avoid/refuse to act upon those demonic suggestions or not. I also suspect that some of those suggestions are fated to be fulfilled via our following through with them so that we can learn an important lesson by doing so.
