I hate to say this, but if they told you a charcoal smog filter was in your gas tank and fell apart... that is total bullcrap... a stone LIE.
You maybe should see if you can get a lawyer pal to write a threatening letter, if you have such a pal. I don't... as I find 99% of lawyers are slime.
Or try to trick the "mechanic" into writing out something that details their assertion about the "In-tank charcoal smog filter"... so you can "write off the repair on your taxes"... if they are dumb enough to do that... THEN take it to a lawyer as part of the free-consultation... You just might get your $$$ back.
I understand... but still... even getting a shyster/lawyer to write just one letter might get your $$$ back cheaply.
If not... then drop it and write a few killer reviews online, like on Yelp. Maybe plan some dirty tricks on their building, if you are in any way a revenge type gal!
